The Birmingham Church is a multi-cultural family of believers who have committed themselves to the devotion to God and to his Word.

The church of the first century is described this way:
"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." (Acts 2:42-47)

This is the model the Birmingham Church strives to imitate. Just as the first century disciples were devoted to the apostles' teaching we believe we must be devoted to the Bible as the absolute standard for both the church as a whole and for every member.

The early disciples were also devoted to the fellowship, to being a close family where everyone's needs were met. Great marriages, awesome children, pure dating relationships and deep friendships are the hallmarks of this devotion and what the Birmingham Church is all about.

The first-century church was devoted to remembering Jesus and his sacrifice on the cross. The cross, and the love it expresses, is the foundation of everything we do as true disciples, and is the foundation of everything we do at the Birmingham church.

The disciples described in Acts were also devoted to prayer, both as a church and as individuals. At the Birmingham Church, we believe every member must have a personal and daily relationship with God. This relationship is the foundation of every aspect of a disciple's life and should be growing and leading to radically changed lives.

The first-century church was also unified and sacrificial, meeting together every day, helping one another and meeting each other's spiritual and physical needs. We believe the church must be unified, and must have daily relationships where we teach each other, help each other, and take care of each other's needs.

All of this made the first-century church full of glad and sincere people who praised God and enjoyed the favor of the people. People who visit the Birmingham Church are often amazed at the joy, the friendships, and the relationships that go beyond racial, social or economic boundaries and that are full of gladness and sincerity.

The result of all these qualities was that God added to their number daily. The mission of the Birmingham church is to "make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything (Jesus) commanded." (Matthew 28:18-20) The true church must be constantly growing and multiplying, and this is what the Birmingham church strives to do.
